How to win the ‘Wild West’ of social media

I remember when I first started using Twitter and thought, “How fun! And you can’t really get into trouble — how much damage can you do with only 140 characters?”

How naïve I was.

I’ve since wisened up, and have come to agree with strategic adviser Davia Temin that when it comes to corporate social media, “It is the Wild West out there. Every organization knows it should be doing something, but is not sure what. Mistakes made in the immediacy of social media can ruin the brand capital companies have spent years building.”

Temin has written a series on Forbes.com to help employers avoid the 10 don’ts of corporate social media efforts.

“Social media is not a place where anything goes,” Temin warns. “There are important ‘don’ts’ for [employers] to remember when formulating and executing their social media strategy. Ignore these at your peril.”
