Who needs reality TV? Submit your company’s own adoption story!

Posted March 3, 2010 by By Kelley M. Butler at 03:36PM. Comments (0)

Here’s another tidbit about me: my reality TV-watching habits generally trend toward whatever life change I’m undertaking at the moment.

Just before my husband and I bought our first house, I couldn’t get enough of HGTV’s “House Hunters.” In the months before each of our children was born, I watched countless hours of  “A Baby Story” and “Bringing Home Baby” on TLC. As my husband and I consider adopting, I’ve become intrigued by “Adoption Story.”

However, it occurs to me that you or an employee at your company has their own adoption story, and I’d love to hear it. And not just me, but the wonderful professionals at The Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption want to know about adoption benefits U.S. companies are providing to their employees in 2010.

The Foundation is asking organizations across America to participate in its fourth annual 100 Best Adoption-Friendly Workplaces survey. EBN has been the proud media partner for DTFA’s annual listing, and I invite you wholeheartedly to participate in the 2010 survey.

The Foundation’s resulting list of the nation’s 100 Best Adoption-Friendly Workplaces will be released in September at EBN’s Benefits Forum & Expo in Boca Raton, Fla., and featured in the magazine.

The list is determined by an analysis of a company’s adoption benefits, such as the amount of financial reimbursement and paid leave available to employees who adopt.

The Foundation announces America’s top 100 employers, the top 10 by size, and the leaders of each industry. Special recognition is also given to companies who support the cause of adoption and adoptive families in other ways.

“Every year, we welcome new companies to the list and watch others increase their benefits to climb in the rankings, even within a challenging economic environment,” says Rita Soronen, executive director of the Foundation. “We are always looking for that outstanding company with an exceptional adoption benefits policy. The list also allows us to track trends in employer support for adoption.”

Representatives from companies with adoption benefits are encouraged to apply by completing the Foundation’s 10-minute survey at www.AdoptionFriendlyWorkplace.org

In addition to online participants, 40,000 executives from small, medium and large employers will be invited to participate via mail. The entry deadline is April 1.
