3 risks and 1 myth on eye health

In a recent survey conducted by Transitions Optical, only 16% of employees reported getting education from their employer related to their eye health, a gap that is reflected by a lack of understanding of how many lifestyle choices and activities can affect the human eye. Most expressed awareness in how aging (83%), ultraviolet exposure (70%) or lack of sleep (64%) could negatively impact ocular health, but other risks were less recognized. [Images: Thinkstock]

“By educating their workforce about the eye health impact of many of the things that we do every day,” says Smith Wyckoff, a key account manager with Transitions, “… employers can help protect their employees’ vision and maybe even persuade them to change unhealthy habits, helping employers and their employees reap the benefits of lower health care costs and increased productivity.”

Here are three of the less notorious risks to eye health, as well as a false one that Transition says has been oversold.
