Eyeing a synergistic fit with its group product offering that emphasizes preventive medicine, Delta Dental of Missouri recently acquired Advantica EyeCare, with both companies bundling their services later this spring.

David Haynes, president and CEO of Delta Dental of Missouri, noted the “strong connections between obtaining regular, preventive oral health and vision health exams and maintaining optimal overall health. Many systemic diseases can be detected with regular oral and vision exams, including diabetes, hypertension and some cancers.”

Clearwater, Fla.-based Advantica EyeCare, which has 2.4 million members nationwide and annual revenue of more than $46 million, is now a wholly-owned subsidiary of Delta Dental of Missouri’s Essex Holding Company.

The nonprofit Delta Dental of Missouri, which reported revenue of more than $400 million in 2009, has more than 1.3 million members from about 1,400 employers across the Show Me State. Various Delta Dental plans serve 54 million members employed by roughly 89,000 organizations across the U.S.
