EBNC, IFEBP celebrate National Employee Benefits Day

March 3, 2008

EBNC and the IFEBP will kick off National Employee Benefits Day celebrations at the co-sponsored Canadian Benefits Summit slated for April 2-3 at the Holiday Inn on King Street East in Toronto.

This special day is a time for those responsible for employee benefit plans to acknowledge their dedication to providing quality benefits and the important role they play in their colleagues' well-being.

This year the IFEBP is encouraging benefits professionals to use the day as an opportunity to educate themselves and their participants on the importance of health care literacy. Health care literacy is defined as the ability to read, understand and act on medical information.

The IFEBP Web site has numerous resources to help both employers and employees become more educated health care consumers, including ideas such as health fairs, lunch-and-learns or the launching of a new wellness program. Premium items, including a National Employee Benefits Day t-shirt, are also available.

For benefits professionals attending the Canadian Benefits Summit on National Employee Benefits Day, the keynote address, "Recruiting the Facebook Generation: Winning the new race for talent," will be presented by Tod Maffin, a leading international authority on new technologies, the strategic use of social media, the world of blogs and podcasts as well as online video and user-generated content.

Other sessions include:

  • Malcolm Hamilton (Mercer) discussing "The changing face of retirement."
  • Benefits litigation that could be coming soon to a courtroom near you.
  • Disability management, flex & wellness case studies.
  • Drug benefits: do generics really make a difference?
  • DC investment trends: Beyond target date funds.
  • Promoting DC benefits adequacy: Lessons from the U.S.
  • What you need to know about your frozen DB plan.

Register as soon as possible! Participation has exceeded expectations, and only a few spots are still available.
