The American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance has published an eight-page guide to long-term care (LTC) insurance protection that addresses several important planning considerations for women.

Jesse Slome, the group’s executive director, reports that two-thirds of LTC claims paid year resulted from care needs by women, who tend to be the primary decision maker for purchasing such policies.

The booklet explains that women over the age of 65 are nearly three times more likely than men to be in a nursing home in the United States. (980,000 versus 337,000) and suffer from Alzheimer’s disease – the nation’s largest and most costly trigger for LTC.
