The International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans has planned a full slate of activities for National Employee Benefits date, which this year will be celebrated on Thursday, April 2, 2009.
The holiday is a time for those responsible for employee benefit plans to acknowledge their dedication to providing quality benefits and the important role they play in their colleagues' well-being.
With retirement a top concern for many individuals who have seen their account balances shrink dramatically over the last six months, the programming in 2009 has a special focus on retirement security.
To help benefits professionals, the foundation will offer two free video presentations featuring Dallas Salisbury, a respected voice from the Employee Benefits Research Institute, and Brett Hammond, chief investment strategist with TIAA-CREF, reflecting on what the current economy means for benefit plan sponsors and the future of retirement security. The videos will be available on April 2.
The IFEBP Web site provides PDFs of posters that can be downloaded at no cost, and the following tip sheets that can be distributed to employees:
It is suggested that employers host such programs as:
Lunch-and-learn programs on retirement planning.
All-staff e-mails or paycheck stuffers with retirement planning tips.
Retirement tips posters in your building.
Distributing a helpful retirement planning book (see titles available through the Foundation Bookstore).
Presentations on the retirement benefits offered.
Trivia contest about your organization's retirement plan.
Other National Employee Benefits Day t-shirts and trinkets can be ordered online.
